GMT stands for Glass fiber Mat reinforced
Thermoplastics. It is a sheet-type compound
material composed of Poly Propylene and reinforced
Glass Fiber Mat.
Thermoplastic resin is used as matrix, and
Glass Fiber Mat fills inside it. As a half-finished
sheet-type product, it is light as plastic
but also durable as reinforced material.
One of the benefits of the product is that
it is possible to get the material with desired
physical properties at affordable costs by
combining matrix resin and reinforcing materials.
It is also recyclable.
Presently, GMT is mostly used for automobile
structuring materials and interior/exterior
materials which don¡¯t put emphasis on the
appearance. However, as the surfacing technology
progresses (painting with In-Mold coating,
Embossing, Lamination with other sheets),
it is more often used in external parts of
the interior/exterior materials. |
